Augustus Francis b. 1986
“I paint Color, I paint Rhythm, I paint Movement, I paint Speed, I paint Time, I paint Gravity, I paint Mass, I paint what I cannot see.”
Augustus Francis (b. 1986, Los Angeles, California) is a contemporary painter and sculptor whose work explores rhythm, motion, and light through color. His practice bridges gesture and structure, creating a visual language that moves between fluidity and form.
Francis studied Fine Art at Leeds Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom. His work has been exhibited internationally, including with Leonard Hutton Galleries, New York; ACA Galleries, New York; Jonathan Novak Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and at the Big Sight Exhibition Centre, Tokyo. His work is represented in major public and private collections, including the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, Los Angeles.
Expanding beyond painting, Francis has collaborated with Berengo Studio 1989 in Murano, Italy, and with the Königliche Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg in Munich, creating glass and porcelain sculptures that extend his exploration of material and color. A period spent working in Venice further deepened his sensitivity to atmosphere, light, and reflection—qualities that continue to inform his work today.
Francis works between studios in New York, USA and North Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
